Tim Shorrock is a Washington-based writer who partly grew up in South Korea. In 2015, he was named an honorary citizen of Gwangju for his investigative work on the US role in the events of 1980. He spent April and May in Gwangju integrating his collection of declassified documents into Gwangju City’s 5.18 Archives, where they are now available to researchers, reporters and the general public. In 2012, North Korea’s KCNA reported on his documents – inaccurately, as he pointed out in his blog.
