Rodong’s 80th anniversary

Rodong Sinmun marked its 80th anniversary at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on Halloween.   Coming out to the event were a variety of DPRK journalists and editors, labor/people’s correspondents, cadres of the WPK Propaganda and Agitation Department [PAD], a delegation from Choson Sinbo along with PAD Director Ju Chang Il (Chu Chang-il), KCNA President Kim Pyong Ho (Kim Pyo’ng-ho) and Rodong editor-in-chief Pak Yong Min (Pak Yo’ng-min).

Ju Chang Il delivered the anniversary report in which he said that “the publication of Rodong Sinmun was a grand declaration that heralded the birth of the Party organ of the Chuch’e type representing the ideas, politics, lines and stand of the WPK and an event that provided an ideological weapon powerfully arousing all the Party members and other people to realize the Party’s cause.”

“The Party paper which has remained faithful to the idea and intention of the Party Central Committee and shared its destiny with the Party has developed since November 1, 1945,” Ju said in the report and he noted that “the sacred path covered by Rodong Sinmun for 80 years is a proud course in which it has played a role as a good educator, bold propagandist and faithful mouthpiece in every period and at every stage of the revolution and construction while purely preserving its revolutionary character and nature under the special care and energetic guidance of the Party.”

Ju also said that “in the new era of the Chuch’e revolution, Rodong Sinmun is greeting the golden age of its development…the respected comrade Kim Cho’ng-u’n clearly indicated the orientation and ways to be followed by the Party paper and put its character and position as the Party organ on the highest level.   The 80 years covered by the Party paper since it was founded at the foot of Mt. Haebang where the ever-victorious history of the WPK began are the 80 years of loyalty in which it has defended and upheld in the vanguard the ideas and cause of the Party Central Committee—the 80 years of the great ideological campaign in which it has remarkably boosted the spiritual strength and creative power of all the people with its powerful media offensive—and the proud 80 years in which it has recorded the heroic struggle of all generations who performed countless miracles and feats in the history of prosperity of our socialist state.”

The report “called upon all the officials, journalists, editors and employees to launch the ideological campaign and blow the bugle of advance more dynamically to arouse the whole Party and all the people to realize the great cause of the comprehensive national rejuvenation, remaining faithful to the leadership of the great Party Central Committee.”
