George Hutchinson

Dr. George A. Hutchinson is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Korean Studies and a board member of the International Council on Korean Studies. He is also an adjunct professor at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, where he teaches the course “Korea and the World Order.” He most recently served as Lead for Operational Energy Prototyping in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy Resilience & Optimization, and earlier as a Senior Regional Planner advising on U.S. Air Force basing in Korea. A retired Air Force officer and Korean linguist, he is the author of North Korea’s Nuclear Decisions and Strategies (Routledge, 2024) and Army of the Indoctrinated (HRNK, 2022). In addition to 38 North, his writing has appeared in the Air Force Journal of Logistics, the U.S. Naval Institute’s Proceedings, Marine Corps University Press, and the Korea Economic Institute. He holds a Ph.D. from George Mason University.
