Jaewoo Choo

Jaewoo Choo is Professor of Chinese foreign policy in the Department of Chinese Studies at Kyung Hee University. He served as the president of the Korea-China Social Science Studies Association(2022-23) and the Korea Association of International Area Studies(2023). He is also a director of China Studies Center at Korean Research Institute for National Strategy and was a research fellow at the National Security Policy Institute and International Trade Institute. He was a visiting professor at Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech (2011-12), and the Brookings Institute (2014). He also served as a policy advisor to Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Unification, Defense, and others in recent years. Research interests are Chinese foreign policy, multilateral security cooperation, US-China relations, China-North Korea relations, and China’s malign influence operation in South Korea. Recent publications include US-China relations for Koreans: From Korean War to THAAD Conflicts (2017), and US and China’s Strategy on the Korean Peninsula: Reading from the Facts (2018), US and North Korea Relations: The Fate of the History (2022), Incommunicable Chinese Dream (2024). Currently working on a book manuscript on US-North Korea relations, China-North Korea relations in the post-Cold War era. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University (BA in Government) and Peking University (MA & Ph.D. in International Relations).
