Today, we are vigorously waging an all-people grand march to build a powerful socialist state as soon as possible by concentrating all efforts on the construction of an economically powerful state under the respected and beloved supreme leader Comrade Kim Jong Un’s wise leadership.

Today’s struggle to complete the cause of building an economically powerful state is a sacred struggle to bloom into reality the magnificent plan of the great general, who raised our fatherland to a position of an invincible politically and ideologically powerful state and militarily powerful state and opened up brilliant prospects of an economically powerful state.

Our fatherland’s marvelous reality and the future of its final victory exist today thanks to the immortal achievements of the great general, who illuminated a powerful state’s features that are in line with the true nature and characteristics of socialism and weathered a path of severe trials at the forefront to fulfill the cause.

Among the immortal accomplishments that the great general accumulated toward the cause of building a powerful socialist state, his ideological and theoretical achievements, with which he unfolded for our people a magnificent plan for the construction of an economically powerful state, take an important place.

What is important about the ideological and theoretical achievements of the great general, who unfolded a magnificent plan for the construction of an economically powerful state, is, first, that he defined an economically powerful state as an important token of a powerful socialist state and the construction of an economically powerful state as an important front for the construction of a powerful socialist state.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il instructed as follows:

“The most important task arising before us today is to construct an economically powerful state by shoring up the country’s economy as soon as possible. An economically powerful state is one of the basic tokens of a powerful socialist state.

A powerful socialist state is a country where national power is strong, everything thrives, and the people live with nothing to envy in the world. This token of a powerful socialist state is fulfilled when the country’s political and ideological might is strengthened in every way, invincible military capabilities are built with which to reliably safeguard the fatherland and the people from any aggression and challenge from the imperialists, and powerful national economic capabilities are built with which to firmly guarantee socialist economic construction and the improvement of the people’s living standards.

Even if [a country] has firmly risen to the status of a powerful state in political and ideological terms and in military terms, it cannot say with confidence that it is a powerful socialist state if it cannot become a powerful state in economic terms.

The construction of an economically powerful state is the most important task and front for powerful socialist state construction.

Inasmuch as our country has risen to the status of a politically and ideologically powerful state and militarily powerful state thanks to the great general’s unique military-first revolutionary leadership, the construction of an economically powerful state is raised as the most important task for the construction of a powerful socialist state.

Only when [we] build an economically powerful state can [we] strengthen the country’s material and economic foundations and thus further solidify our political and ideological position and military position; bring a fundamental turnabout in the improvement of the people’s living standards; and highly display the superiority of socialism of our style on a full scale.

As the great general defined an economically powerful state as the basic token of a powerful socialist state and the construction of an economically powerful state as an important front for the construction of a powerful state, our people have been able to rise up in a general onward march for consummating the cause of building a powerful socialist state with firm confidence in victory, with a clear goal and direction of the struggle.

Furthermore, [we] cannot build our own strong economic and military capabilities without developing science and technology under the condition where a science and technology competition is being waged fiercely on a global scale, and the imperialists are maneuvering viciously to fulfill their dominationist ambitions through “scientific and technological predominance.”

Rapidly advancing science and technology is the most urgent and necessary requirement for the construction of an economically powerful state.

In presenting his plan on building an economically powerful state, the great general placed great importance on science and technology.

When [we] rapidly develop science and technology and actively introduce the successes to production can [we] develop production capacity and strengthen the country’s economic capabilities as well. [We] are bound to become the strong when science and technology advance, and the weak if science and technology fall behind. In the current era, advancements in science and technology are advancements in production capacity, and the level of science and technology is the basic yardstick for evaluating a country’s economic capabilities.

The great general clearly saw through the trends and requirements of the current era and put forward the attachment of importance to science and technology as one of the three pillars of powerful socialist construction and as a strategic line for the construction of an economically powerful state. He also presented the task of firmly guaranteeing the construction of an economically powerful state scientifically and technologically by raising the country’s science and technology to a world-class level as soon as possible.

The great general said [we] should boldly set high goals in the field of science and technology, concentrate efforts on researching and introducing the latest science and technology, and raise key science and technology to a world-class level in the shortest amount of time.

With the illumination of the idea on vigorously forging ahead with economic construction by rapidly advancing science and technology, a shortcut has been opened for completing the cause of building an economically powerful state as soon as possible.

Moreover, what is important about the ideological and theoretical achievements of the great general, who unfolded a magnificent plan for the construction of an economically powerful state, is that he illuminated the principle of building an economically powerful state: building an economically powerful state with our own strength, technology, and resources on the revolutionary principle of self-reliance.

Noting that powerful socialist state construction is work where we become the masters and build a wealthy and powerful fatherland in this land through our strength, technology, and resources, the great general taught that we should build a powerful state under the banner of self-reliance.

Self-reliance is a resolute revolutionary spirit of trying to carry out the revolution and construction to the end with one’s own strength, no matter what bottlenecks and obstacles block the way forward. Self-reliance is a revolutionary spirit of Juche and our people’s traditional struggle principle and struggle ethos. It was created during the process of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, which was organized and unfolded under the banner of the great Juche idea, and was consistently materialized throughout the entire course of the Korean revolution, which was difficult and full of trials.

Presenting a plan for the construction of an economically powerful state, the great general prescribed self-reliance as the fundamental principle that should be firmly taken hold of consistently in the construction of an economically powerful state.

The construction of an economically powerful state is a massive cause of economic construction.

Inasmuch as the construction of an economically powerful state puts forth the goal of raising our country’s economy to a globally high level, there may be many things that are lacking, and there may be many obstacles in the course of building an economically powerful state.

The foremost requirement for maintaining the revolutionary principle of self-reliance is to do away with dependence on others and finding solutions to all the issues arising in economic construction with [our] own strength, from the firm position that [we] ourselves are the masters.

[We] should thoroughly do away with the spirit of relying only on others instead of believing in our own strength and should also do away with the passive attitude of submitting to obstacles and giving up on the struggle or waiting for favorable conditions to be created. If [we] struggle with an indefatigable revolutionary spirit, firmly taking the position that [we] ourselves are the masters, there is nothing in the world [we] cannot achieve.

The self-reliance that [we] must materialize in the construction of an economically powerful state is in substance qualitatively different from the self-reliance of the past.

The great general taught that the self-reliance founded on modern science and technology is the self-reliance of the current era. Self-reliance without modern science and technology cannot be tolerated in the construction of an economically powerful state.

[We] should thoroughly maintain the principle of resolving all the issues arising in the construction of an economically powerful state based on modern science and technology, in line with the demands of the era of science and technology and the era of the knowledge-based economy.

Due to the great general presenting an idea on accelerating the construction of an economically powerful state on the principle of self-reliance, a firm guarantee has been created for successfully building an economically powerful state even in today’s difficult and complicated environment.

It is the great leaders’ behest and our people’s ardent desire to build an economically powerful state.

Under the respected and beloved Comrade Supreme Leader’s wise leadership, our people have been able to create a succession of miracles and innovations that surprised the world because the great general defined the construction of an economically powerful state as an important front for the construction of a powerful socialist state and illuminated the shortcut and principled issues for its realization.

정치사상적면에서나 군사적면에서 강국의 지위에 확고히 올라섰다고 하여도 경제면에서 강국이 되지 못하면 사회주의강국이라고 당당히 말할수 없다.

오늘 과학기술은 비할바없이 빠른 속도로 발전하고있으며 그것이 경제건설과 전반적사회생활에 미치는 영향은 더욱더 커가고있다. 오늘 과학기술은 나라와 민족의 부강번영의 강력한 요인으로 되고있다. 더우기 세계적으로 과학기술경쟁이 치렬하게 벌어지고 제국주의자들이 《과학기술적우세》로 저들의 지배주의적야망을 실현하려고 악랄하게 책동하고있는 조건에서 과학기술을 발전시키지 않고서는 자체의 튼튼한 경제력과 군사력을 마련할수 없다.

과학과 기술을 빨리 발전시키는것은 경제강국건설의 가장 절박하고 필수적인 요구이다.

위대한 장군님께서는 경제강국건설구상을 제시하시면서 과학기술을 크게 중시하시였다.

자력갱생은 어떤 애로와 난관이 앞을 가로막아도 혁명과 건설을 자체의 힘으로 끝까지 수행하려는 견결한 혁명정신이다. 자력갱생은 위대한 주체사상의 기치밑에 조직전개된 항일혁명투쟁과정에 창조되고 간고하고도 시련에 찬 조선혁명의 전로정에 일관하게 구현된 주체의 혁명정신이고 우리 인민의 전통적인 투쟁원칙, 투쟁기풍이다.

위대한 장군님께서는 경제강국건설구상을 제시하시면서 자력갱생을 경제강국건설에서 시종일관 튼튼히 틀어쥐고나가야 할 근본원칙으로 규정하시였다.

경제강국건설은 거창한 경제건설위업이다.

자력갱생의 혁명적원칙을 견지하는데서는 남에 대한 의존심을 버리고 경제건설에서 나서는 모든 문제를 자신이 주인이라는 확고한 립장에 서서 자신의 힘으로 풀어나가는것이 선차적인 요구이다.
