Brian Bridges

Dr. Brian Bridges is a retired professor from Lingnan University, Hong Kong, now living in Malaysia. After working for the BBC and the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, he taught politics at Lingnan for twenty years, serving as the founding Head of the Department of Political Science. He also served in directorate posts in the university’s Centre for Asian Pacific Studies, where he organized several conferences that brought together South Korean and North Korean scholars.

He specializes in the diplomatic history and international relations of Northeast Asia, with a particular interest in the Korean Peninsula and Japan. He has published a number of books and articles on Japan-Korea relations, Europe-Korea relations and Korean politics, and his most recent Korea-related book is The Two Koreas and the Politics of Global Sport. He has published articles on both the ROK’s and DPRK’s relations with Southeast Asia, and is currently collaborating with Hoo Chiew-Ping and Shine Choi on an edited book project on the DPRK’s relations with ASEAN.
